What Our Education System Overlooks

In a world overflowing with information, children still struggle to understand themselves and their relationships. Research proves that social-emotional skills improve academic performance and long-term wellbeing. Yet, emotional capacity remains largely invisible in our education design :

  • A Missing Curriculum: Emotional wellbeing is rarely a structured part of school curricula.
  • Untrained Educators: They receive little to no formal training in social-emotional support.
  • Exhausted Teachers: They feel burdened from multiple tasks over & above teaching, leading to frustration among teachers resulting in emotional distress in classroom

What Changes With Emotional Support 

Project Dreamcatchers brings structured Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and mental wellbeing into government and government-aided schools. The true impact of this work is best understood through the voices of those experiencing it.

“My father drinks and used to beat us sometimes. Earlier, I felt angry and scared. But after these sessions, I understand him and talk to him about overcoming the addiction. I don’t hate him now — I just want to study well and make him proud one day. I also taught my sister the trick Didi taught me — to let go of bad thoughts. Now I feel I can help my family too.”

I am performing in our school's Annual Day, and I was terrified of going on stage. I kept thinking about what would happen if I messed up. After our session about confidence, I learned that it is okay to make mistakes. I don't feel that stage fear anymore; I'm just excited to go up there and do my best!"

“मेडिटेशन की वजह से बच्चों में गुस्सा कम होने लगा है। कक्षा में लड़ाई-झगड़े भी कम हुए हैं और अब बच्चे पढ़ाई में अधिक ध्यान देने लगे हैं।”

“मैं हर दिन बच्चों से 15 मिनट मेडिटेशन करवाकर पढ़ाई शुरू करती हूँ। मैंने कई बच्चों के स्वभाव में सकारात्मक बदलाव देखा है। बच्चों की सोचने की क्षमता बढ़ी है, वे विभिन्न उपक्रमों में सहभाग लेने लगे हैं और एक-दूसरे के साथ अच्छे से पेश आते हैं। मेरी कक्षा में जो बच्चे ज्यादा गुस्सा और लडाई करते थे वे बच्चे अब लड़ाई-झगड़ा करने के बजाय शांति से, एक-दूसरे के सहयोग के साथ पढ़ने लगे हैं।”

“स्वयंसेवकों की मदद से हर शनिवार होने वाली गतिविधियाँ और मेडिटेशन के कारण बच्चों में आत्मविश्वास बढ़ा है। उनमें एक-दूसरे को समझने की भावना विकसित हुई है और सीखने का उत्साह भी बढ़ा है। अब जो बच्चे पहले शांत बैठते थे, वे भी बातचीत करने और भाग लेने लगे हैं।”

It reminded me that education isn't just about teaching content—it’s about creating an environment where children feel heard, encouraged, and unafraid to make mistakes."

"The biggest takeaway for the children was 'confidence.' We discussed how to look at challenges from a positive angle, and it was amazing to see them apply it. After our session, one boy decided to tackle his difficulties in math head-on, and a girl overcame her stage fright for the annual day, no longer afraid of making mistakes."
